All things end.
One of the greatest lessons of life is that all things have a beginning, and all things have an end. Well, it is time to face off with another ending.
In 1999, my brother Mike and I decided to begin writing a professional wrestling column, and we called it the Crossface Report. It was an original concept.two people, commenting on the week that was in wrestling, sort of like a 'Siskel and Ebert' for the WCW, the WWE, and the then-functioning ECW. We eventually branched out into multiple columns, and finally decided that we were going to start our own website. After a lot of him-hawing, we went to Homestead and created a website, linking up news, rumors, results, and our Crossface Report. We named it bodyslam.cc, and our run began.
The website built up into something we didn't force. We started out at 100 page-views a week, and ended up averaging close to 2500. We started with three pages, and ended with close to twenty. We started with two columns, and, over the life of the website, ended up having eight brilliant writers share their wrestling acumen with us. At our greatest extent, we had four original weekly columns, news updated daily, and our columns were viewed by 10,000 individuals a week, on four websites.
Fun times.
However, like I maintained earlier, all things end. Bodyslam.cc is closing it's doors.
Several things will still go on. Primarily, our love of the industry. The Crossface Connection, published at Solie's Vintage Wrestling, will still be a part of the Tuesday Morning Report, every week. Even the Crossface Corner will show up at OCMAN from time to time, so keep tuned. However, the website will shut down on Monday, the 4th of August.
There are a lot of people that deserve thanks from us, like Jessica, Stan, Sandy, Bubs, Truck, John S., Prof. Chewy, and the other columnists that have graced the pages at bodyslam.cc. We can't thank you enough for all your efforts, in good times and in bad, and we owe all of youa lot. Many of you deserve more thanks than this, and this paragraph doesn't begin to do you justice. Suffice to say that everyone that has poured their sweat and effort into this website has our undying gratitude.
Special thanks go to Mike Cross, the Webmaster and designer of the site. He also updated the news every weekday, and did it over 1000 times, for no pay other than the readers attention. Thanks, Mike, because there would have been no bodyslam.cc without you.
OK. Thanks to all of our readers as well. You guys are awesome!
So, that's it. We're outta here. The Report will post on OCMAN every Sunday from here on out. Send e-mails to jcross1kirk@ameritech.net, if you have any questions and/or comments.
See you around.
John Cross
